The following is a snapshot of my living room. Just my living room. The rest of the house matches it perfectly. Before you read it, don't judge. Oh, and don't come over to visit right now either. They both might make me cry...
Ready to feel better about your house and housekeeping skills? Here we go...
The coffee table is pushed to the side and wedged between the love seat and the sofa. There are dried fruit loops stuck to one of the legs and an open stick of margarine sitting among month old magazines (isn't that where YOU keep the butter??).
Last night Gracie insisted on having a picnic for dinner on the trampoline. Half way through it started sprinkling and we had to move it to the living room. There are still french bread crusts and a few apple slices under the piano. The picnic blanket is in a rumpled heap in the middle of the room.
There are three loads of laundry on the loveseat waiting to be folded.
While I put in some work hours yesterday, Gracie made the living room her art studio. Since the weather is trying to get better (although it snowed yesterday here!!!), her medium of choice lately is "nature". There are several pine cones and some crushed leaves in one corner of the room and about 87 sets of strung together paper dolls with grass for hair in the couch. Oh, and all the paper scraps.
Evie has discovered popcorn. She loves the stuff so much that she just plants her face in the bowl and opens her mouth. Isaac has discovered that if he makes a trail of it around a room, she will follow him. But she gets distracted. And so does he. No longer a trail, Mr. Redenbacher's legacy is ground into my carpet. Right now I hate popcorn. It makes my vacuum smell weird.
The piano needs dusting, the pictures need straightening and there are enough Legos and Bionicles and Polly Pockets laying around to fill a small swimming pool. Don't worry, Evie and I are taking refuge in the kitchen so we both don't choke. Her on the Legos and me on my incompetence.
I shouldn't be blogging. I should be cleaning.
In the spirit of Wordless Wednesday, I'm starting my own trend. Foto Friday. Where one picture is the only obligation.
Some Fridays I might say something profound, some Fridays I might tell you about my messy bathroom. Other Fridays I might actually go wordless (whoa!). The point is, no more stressed out Friday blogging for me!! Uh-uh. Since I take about 376 pictures in any given week, this is the perfect day to post another one, right??
Oh, and no. I will NOT take a picture of my living room. Talking about it was mortifying enough.

Happy Weekend Everyone!!!

Sounds like my last 2 weeks... Girls out of pre-school on spring break, getting prepared to move, maid on vacation. My daughter ate raisins off the floor in our car. It's been a day.
Happy Friday!
YAY! I'm not the only one with a mess in my house! You give me hope that I might be normal after all.
Your post are so much fun to read! I love the pic and didn't even need to see what your living room looks like. I can look at my own. Ü
You are awesome!
Here is a little trick that I have had to resort to a few times. Right before my husband gets home I quickly straighten things up and then fill the sink with steamy water and pine-sol. It instantly feels and smells like a clean house. hee hee
I am so glad I am not alone. I was just thinking if someone rang my doorbell right now...I would pretend not to be here. That bad. I am usually a compulsive cleaner, but of late I just can't get it together! Thanks for making me feel a little better. You. are. the . best.
Love this post! Love that you are a real person with real stuff. You are not alone. I was dying for the picture though... tricky!
Enjoy your kids and your weekend. PLEASE make it warm up around here. I am SO ready for sunshine and hot summer days. Heck I will settle for sunshine and warmish days.
I DEMAND a photo of the living room! PLEASE?!?
See, I just skip Fridays because I figure everyone is too busy to read over the weekend anyways. But I like the Foto Friday. I think I will do it now.
You realize, that if you substitute athletic equipment in place of the Polly Pockets.... that could be MY living room.
Bug is forever building forts. Having picnics. (Ok, that one might just be because I'm apparently too lazy to clean off the kitchen table so we can eat there.) Stringing stuff from here to breakfast.
Jock? He just leaves stuff where he drops it. Baseball bag? Blocking the front door. Cleats? Living room. The rest of his uniform? Strung down the hallway leading to both his room and the shower.
And Coach? I swear that man has a ball cap EVERYWHERE.
See? Its SOOOO not just you!
You shoud see my kitchen!! And where am I? On the couch with my laptop. Love the photo!!
You won't ever get any guilt from me...I am a LOUSY house cleaner. When my girls come across forgotten food it usually turns into a snack, regardless of how old and crunchy it might be. Gross, I know. Maybe I should send them your way and they'll eat all the food off of your floor so you don't have to vacuum? Deal???
I love your living room. It sounds like I've just stepped into my own house. Minus the dog hair. Micah eats on the living room floor and we now have dog hair in the dish washer from all the stuff his dishes pick up.
I am with you - no living rooms allowed! Hey its not all about having a clean house, right? Hope you have a great weekend!
We ALL have messes in our house.
I LOVE that photo - precious!
Love the idea of Foto Friday - gives us all time to clean some more !!!
I was SO looking for an actual photograph, too!
Such a cute bath picture {I love bath photos}!
Honestly, I do feel better about my house, {hehe} but I also can see the bigger picture from reading this post. I love that you had a picnic in the front room together, that Gracie is so artistic, and the thought of Isaac playing with his little sister {reminds me of Boo on Monsters Inc}.
So here I sit thankful for the reminder that instead of a clean house it's the memories that matter. Something I need to work on :) HAVE A FUN WEEKEND TOO!
Don't feel bad. I'm waiting for my toilet to grow legs and walk out of the bathroom and ask me to clean it...I figure I have another week or so... ;)
LOL...I don't have sticks of butter in the living room, but my son once thought it appropriate to spray Molly McButter all over the sofas. All over. Leopard spots of grease ALL OVER! And my carpet has spots all over it from where Judah dripped his sippy cups, which then attracted dirt. And we've got laundry on our sofas, too. Yes, plural. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
rad post! love that you are real too! and i'm in on the foto friday. easy enough . and maybe to make you feel better, i'll email you my family room picture. YEAH. at least you can explain the goodies, and grass. mine? i have no idea when or how it got there. we are cleaning this afternoon for April break. I'll do a before picture for your viewing pleasure. because it is totally NEVER GONNA BE )POSTED, or I'd have CPS knocking at my door. i'm rad. you're rad! lets hug!
Ah, what a great way to end the week......with a shot of your adorable girls.......I find fridays hard too. Thought I might be weird that way. Glad I'm "normal" ha ha. HOpe your weekend is fabulous!
Your posts make me laugh and brighten my day. I can tell you that my house often looks like that. I guess it's part of having kids!
Good to know that I am not the only one with a disaster in their house, only mine isn't my living room at the moment... it's my bedroom. Clothes piled up to put away, crap all over the dresser, magazines on the floor.. oh it's bad.
Such a cute photo!!!!
I LOVE this post. I am so going to join you next week, because I feel the same way about Friday blogging. Which is why I haven't posted on Friday for awhile.
Don't worry about your living room. Seriously. My house looks like that all. the. time. Except we don't have a coffee table so there is no butter in the living room...
Have a great weekend!
I live for Fridays too. The house is usually a mess, there's nothing to eat, the laundry is piled up, and I'm ready to go to bed early and sleep in on Saturday.
Mostly because I don't have to get Jake up for school and make my way to work!
The girls are too cute and too sweet. Love it! I also love that you keep things so very real. Anytime I post a picture of my house it may look clean, but just out of the picture are the piles. Maybe I'm not keeping it as real as I thought... You are a fantastic mom. My kids need me to lighten up a bit.
Well, at least the RS pres hasn't called you yet.
I'm up for Foto Friday. although today I couldn't even manage that.
Oh, maybe I'll post my me in my new halter top.
Hello! New reader here. I'm loving all these fun blogs popping up that glamorize REAL life. Thanks for sharing. I loved the post about the cheerio popping out of your bra! Yes... I might be tempted to eat it! LOL!
See you Next Friday for Foto!!
haha! Yeah that's exactly where I keep my butter!! LOL
Tam
Sorry if I'm laughing. That is too funny, and dang it - I wanted a picture!
Love it! The picture of the girls is great and the verbal picture of the living room even better. That made me feel right at home. Today I cleaned the kitchen 3 times and when hubby finally came in the yard he looked at the newest child produced mess and said "Um, I thought you were goning to clean the kitchen." UGH talk about wanting to kill him.
Anyway, I love the art choices, a mess yes but I am just WOW'ed by her creative flair. So cute.
I like Saturdays, too, so I don't have to get the kids up and out to school, either.
You don't want to see my kitchen right now. I'm too tired to tackle it tonight but I'll have to tomorrow.
This is why I keep returning to your blog.
My house is always a work in progress and it is the first thing I apologize for when people enter it. "... sorry about the house... let me move that for you so you have a place to sit down... don't mind the pile of paperwork on the dinning table, I'll just move it over to the other pile of nightmail by the kitchen counter." Goodness know what my house would like like if if worked had three little ones. I'd hate to think.
I am quite sure though, your kids will remember the art projects and the loving, accepting home before they will remember your popcorn smelling vacuum cleaner. And if they do remember the vacuum cleaner smelling like popcorn it will be with tears of laughter -- not an ounce of resentment.
Thank you for sharing your life so openly and honestly. It helps the sanity stay alive amid the chaos and the guilt of parenthood.
K,
mother of 2 little ones, with a dog for a vacuum cleaner that rarely has a free seat to sit on without having to clean of the unfolded laundry, a collection of toys, magazines, junk mail or bills.
i love your foto friday i love your confession on the messy mess and i love that I am not the only who has trouble with my friday posts. my 52 blessings are ALWAYS late! this week no exception as its almost sunday morning and I have yet to post.
once again--so not alone thanx to you! hmmmm maybe YOU should be my blessing this week!
oh yeah, i like fruit loops!
Are you serious? I'm in. No joke.
And once again, long lost identical twin sister, I get this - only I feel that way about blogging EVERY day (but I suck whereas you RAWK)!
I feel your pain! My dishes are still not clean.... Cody rinsed them and loaded them into the dishwasher on Saturday morning, but has yet to start it! I asked him to last night and he said, "Dad only said it would be nice IF they were done. He didn't actually say to do them." Aaargh!
What a beautiful picture!
And while I must admit my living areas have never looked like your's sounds, I will not even begin to tell you what the kids bedrooms upstairs look like. My 5 year old and destroy her bedroom faster than a tornado could! I clean it, and five minutes later, all her "stuff" in back in the middle of the floor, on the bed, the dressers, just how she wants it.
That picture blows your post right out of the water. Who CARES about a messy living room when you've got THOSE two sweeties???
Wow, I suck! I can't believe I'm comment #41! Sorry, bad friend!!
Oh honey, I'm sure we've all been there! At least the honest ones!! I'm sorry it's driving you nuts right now! And, yes it is in fact where I keep the butter. Right with the month old magazines, where else would i put it? duh? ha ha
Love ya!!
sounds like lots of lovin' is going on in your house. remember that one day it will be so clean you won't know what to do. enjoy it. :)
but the butter thing is weird. who put that there?!
I'll show you mine if you show me yours. I bet mine is worse.
I totally suck every Friday. I think the world has come to expect it.
♡ I'm with you all the way! The ONNNLLLYY reason my house was clean this weekend was because my mother-in-law was here!!! I get so tired of the constant mess that kids make!
Sweet girlies!! Love the foto.
Sounds like someone had fun!! (Not you naturally...)That is how spring break was around here. My youngest and her friends spent a little too much time over here!!
My house is trashed and I am sitting here trying to catch up on blogs. I seem to get a little done each day, but I need a huge bulldozer pickup day. Ugh.
Don't stress about Fridays...it's Aloha Friday afterall...take it easy and enjoy!
Love the Foto Friday idea! I'd join you, but, well, wouldn't that be redundant?
p.s. Got your text the other day...meanie! :-) I'll call you soon.
Why does that living room sound so eerily familiar to me?
